The award-winning FlatMesh™ platform utilizes a wireless mesh network, intelligent sensor system consisting of small, easy-to-use devices equipped with sensing, communication and computing capabilities.

In a FlatMesh™ system, devices ''talk'' to their neighbors and relay data in a series of ''hops'' to the outside world. This dynamic, non-hierarchical system is extremely robust and can withstand damage to individual devices without systematic performance loss. It is suitable for dense networks concentrated in relatively small areas. It is particularly suitable for locations that are difficult to access, with obstacles that would limit other technologies. The FlatMesh platform incorporates a significant level of network intelligence, enabling not only a degree of self-configuration and self-healing, but responsiveness to events.

Wireless network

On a technical level, FlatMesh™ has been tested and proven over a decade of deployments in very demanding environments, and before that, five years of research at University College London, one of the world’s most respected engineering universities. The proprietary communication protocol is based on the industry standard IEEE 802.15.4 PHY and MAC layers, operating in the global 2.4 GHz ISM band. FlatMesh™ is part of an integrated system that can contain many sensor types and is ideal for complex applications such as construction sites or buildings where obstacles are common and accidental damage to parts of the wireless monitoring system is possible. Nodes communicate to find the optimal path and transmit data to the gateway in a series of “hops”. If a sensor node or gateway fails for any reason, the other nodes will find an alternative path; this provides a significant level of robustness and redundancy. It also allows for very flexible deployment configurations, especially when compared to wireless options for h ub and eker. Continuous improvement of the sensor interface and wireless algorithms has resulted in extremely low power consumption and very long battery life, with many sensor nodes able to last up to 15 years while taking precision samples every 30 minutes and relaying messages through the network. The gateways are pre-configured so that the system is operational as soon as it is installed. Users can choose from connectivity options including USB or RS232 connection to local equipment or connection via an integrated solar-powered gateway. Alternatively, where mains power is available, the FlatMesh system can be connected directly to other databases, data loggers or industrial computers. The system is highly intelligent and allows remote users to interact with the nodes and gateway, for example to reconfigure the reading frequency. FlatMesh 4G Gateway

The FlatMesh 4G Gateway is a fully integrated device that provides all the functionality required to operate a FlatMesh wireless sensor network in a remote location. No fixed IP address is required for cellular service. The Gateway simply initiates the connection to the FlatMesh WebMonitor software over the Internet.
